Beijing-Beetsterzwaag

Installation (2008) Groupshow with Peter Vink, Erzsi Pennings, Jacqueline Floor, Yarre Stooker Curated by Ida van der Lee The day before arriving in Beetsterzwaag I returned from Beijing. Next to the jetlag I had to adjust to the huge differences between the megacity and the countryside.. Since I had no plan -this was the demand of the curator- I worked in a more intuitive way on the spot. In 4 days I realised the installation Beijing-Beetsterzwaag. I built a room that resembled a hotel room and edited 2 video works for the room. Often a journey leads to new works. I either travel with a plan or concept or I arrive somewhere with the intention to grasp material for a new piece. Sometimes I accidentally discover something fortunate, while looking for something else entirely. This particular way of working made artist and curator Ida van der Lee invite me to come and work in Kunsthuis SYB in Beetsterzwaag in June 2008 for the exhibition Without a plan. Pictures soon.
